Dear Caroline and Kinga,

As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, I am writing to you to ask that the Ministry of Transportation continue to work with Metrolinx and TTC in order to find a solution so that the Discounted Double Fare program (DDF) can continue.

Since the implementation of the DDF, we have seen dramatic ridership increases at the Etobicoke GO stations with direct TTC connections. Notably, in less than one year, there has been a 17% increase at the Mimico station and a nearly 350% increase on the Lakeshore West Line—this is far outpacing any of the growth across the entire system. This is partly due to the TTC's 176 shuttle buses, which is now connecting tens of thousands of Humber Bay Shore residents to the closest GO station (Mimico).

The Discounted Double Fare program provides an important financial relief to many active transit riders and is key to attracting new and future transit riders. My understanding is that Metrolinx has managed to beat their own fare revenue expectations even after absorbing the DDF cost overruns. It is my wish that Metrolinx, the TTC and the Ministry of Transportation can come together to find efficiencies thus ensuring continued savings for Etobicoke-Lakeshore's transit riders.

If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Christine Hogarth, MPP
Etobicoke—Lakeshore
