E-Newsletter: April 17, 2021

Friends,

Great news Etobicoke! I am happy to share with you that Ontario has now administered almost 7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and we are expanding Ontario’s vaccination plan for youth aged 12 – 17. The province is now on track to vaccinate over 65% of adults by the end of May.

With the arrival of increased vaccine supply, we have expanded Ontario’s vaccine rollout plan with the launch of new mobile vaccine units. This week the Ontario Food Terminal in Etobicoke-Lakeshore opened as a mobile site for essential food supply employees, vaccinating 6,000 essential workers.

Since the beginning of this pandemic, our government has been clear that we will always protect the health and safety of Ontarians. Unfortunately, these new, extremely contagious, and deadly variants continue to pose significant risks to the people of our province.

In consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, our government is extending the Stay-at-Home Order until at least June 2, 2021. I know this frustrates many of you but we must remain vigilant so that we can enjoy our summer. It is important to remember that during this time, we are asking everyone to continue to follow all the public health and workplace safety measures. For more information please click here.

With regard to variants entering through our borders, we are fighting a brutal third wave fuelled by variants, including the B.1.1.7 variant that has now become the dominant strain. The federal government must secure our borders so we can stop the importation of cases and protect Ontarians from new, potentially vaccine escaping, COVID-19 variants of concern. Existing measures at the border, an area of federal responsibility, have failed to keep variants of concern out of Canada and Ontario.

This week Ontario commemorates Police Week. I would like to acknowledge our brave heroes for protecting, serving, and safeguarding our communities from crime and violence.

We are also celebrating Nursing week in Ontario and around the world. Nurses play an essential role in our health system, making a difference in the lives of patients every day. This year more than ever, we thank you for your dedication, compassion, and courage.

This month is also Sexual Assault Prevention Month - an opportunity to raise awareness about the devastating impact of this crime and support victims and survivors.

I wish you all a wonderful week. Stay safe.

Christine
