Ontario Government Supporting Toronto Ukrainian FestivalPublished on June 13, 2019
ETOBICOKE, ON – Today, MPP Christine Hogarth (Etobicoke—Lakeshore) announced that the Toronto Ukrainian Festival has received $75,000 in funding from the Celebrate Ontario Fund, administered through Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
The Toronto Ukrainian Festival runs during the weekend of September 13 – 15 in Bloor West Village.
“Etobicoke—Lakeshore is home to a large community of Ukrainian-Canadians, who contribute enormously to the social and cultural fabric of our community,” said MPP Christine Hogarth. “I am so pleased to be able to support our Ukrainian-Canadian community in Etobicoke—Lakeshore and across Toronto in celebrating their rich and diverse cultural heritage.”
This funding is part of a $13 million investment in over 250 festivals and events by the Ontario government in communities across the province. The latest data from 2016 indicates that tourism supported nearly 390,000 jobs and generated over $34 billion of economic activity in Ontario.
“The Ukrainian Culture Festival is very grateful for the support we are receiving through the province’s Celebrate Ontario funding. This support is invaluable in assisting the festival in adding high level programming which will attract more tourism to Toronto,” said Jurij Klufas, Chair of the Ukrainian Cultural Festival. “Attracting tourism brings both prosperity to Bloor West Village but also helps all visitors understand each other’s heritage and history and brings us all together to celebrate as a community.”
