Raise a Fork for Farmers This Canada’s Agriculture Day

Published on February 23, 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many lessons over the past year including how important the agri-food sector is to our communities. And when better to celebrate the resiliency and dedication of Canadian farmers than today, February 23rd, Canada’s Agriculture Day.

We’re fortunate here in Ontario to have such a strong and renowned agri-food industry. It’s the hardworking farmers, farm workers and food processors, as well as distributors, truck drivers and retailers across our supply chain, who continue to produce and deliver the incredible food that feeds Ontarians, Canadians and the world.

We should all have tremendous gratitude for these essential workers who show up every day to make sure we can always find food on grocery store shelves and kitchen tables. Thank you to this entire sector for helping to keep our province going at this crucial time.

I encourage you to take part in this special day by raising a fork to salute the good people and good things that make Ontario’s agriculture and food sector so incredible. Why not try your hand at whipping up a delicious recipe using local ingredients, or send a message of thanks to farmers on social media? Look for the Foodland Ontario logo when shopping for food to make sure you’re buying local and check out the #CdnAgDay hashtag online to get some fun inspiration and to participate in the conversation.

I hope you find your own way to recognize the hardworking men and women across our country who grow, process and manufacture the safe, quality food which sustains us.
